Healing and a conversion of heart (Nov 5, 2015)
I have been an almost daily communicant since 1983. Some years ago, I used to lead a 'house of hospitality' in Rockdale, which we called 'Mercy House'. We used to take people in and provide meals and accomodation, and tried to create a 'small Christian Community' with an emphasis on the spiritual and corporal 'works of Mercy'. We emphasised the importance of orthodox Catholic truth in developing a world view and interacting with the world, and tried to provide a 'healing' environment for the wounded people we encountered. I was 'damaged' myself, having been diagnosed as schizophrenic in 1984 and hospitalised many times in the 1980's/90's. I haven't, now, been hospitalised for many years but I still take medication for this illness, and also for diabetes. I am currently living in supported accommodation in Bondi because of injuries sustained when I jumped out of a third story window as the result of "hearing a voice", some six years ago. I now also have a brain injury with a badly damaged memory. I am requesting prayer for a healing of this brain injury, particularly the memory, and for a healing of my schizophrenia, and possibly also for a healing of my diabetes. Additionally, I request prayer for a return to the practice of the Faith of a dear friend of mine, Avril Fennell, who used to run 'Mercy House' with me and who I have, unfortunately, lost contact with in acrimonious circumstances. 'Mercy House' now subsists between me and my friends, David Marsh and Chris Oldham, who regularly pray together. Although we can no longer provide hospitality, we support and encourage other small communities in inner city Sydney, notably "David's Place" and "Cana Communities". I have been to Mass in St. Patrick's once or twice, and look forward to visiting the parish again now that we have this connection.
